21:1And Jehovah visited Sarah as He had said, and Jehovah did to Sarah as He had promised.
Compare
-
21:2And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.
Compare
-
21:3And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.
Compare
-
21:4And Abraham circumcised Isaac his son when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.
Compare
-
21:5And Abraham was a hundred years old when Isaac his son was born to him.
Compare
-
21:6And Sarah said, God has made me laugh; everyone who hears will laugh with me.
Compare
-
21:7And she said, Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.
Compare
-
21:8And the child grew and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.
Compare
-
21:9And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.
Compare
-
21:10So she said to Abraham, Cast out this maidservant and her son, for the son of this maidservant shall not inherit with my son Isaac.
Compare
-
21:11And the matter displeased Abraham greatly on account of his son.
Compare
-
21:12And God said to Abraham, Do not be displeased on account of the boy and on account of your maidservant. Whatever Sarah says to you, listen to her voice, for in Isaac shall your seed be called.
Compare
-
21:13And of the son of the maidservant I will also make a nation, because he is your seed.
Compare
-
21:14And Abraham rose up early in the morning and took bread and a waterskin full of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the child and sent her away. And she departed and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.
Compare
-
21:15When the water in the waterskin was finished, she cast the child under one of the bushes.
Compare
-
21:16And she went and sat herself down opposite him, a fair distance away, about a bowshot away, for she said, Do not let me look upon the death of the child. And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept.
Compare
-
21:17And God heard the voice of the boy. And the Angel of God called to Hagar out of heaven and said to her, What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid, for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is.
Compare
-
21:18Rise up; lift up the boy, and hold him with your hand, for I will make of him a great nation.
Compare
-
21:19And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water. And she went and filled the waterskin with water and gave the boy a drink.
Compare
-
21:20And God was with the boy, and he grew. And he dwelt in the wilderness and became an archer.
Compare
-
21:21And he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took a wife for him from the land of Egypt.
Compare
-
21:22And at that time Abimelech and Phicol the captain of his army spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with you in all that you do.
Compare
-
21:23Now therefore swear to me here by God that you will not deal falsely with me or with my offspring or with my posterity. According to the kindness that I have shown to you, you shall do to me and to the land in which you have sojourned.
Compare
-
21:24And Abraham said, I swear it.
Compare
-
21:25And Abraham confronted Abimelech concerning the well of water which Abimelech's servants had taken by force.
Compare
-
21:26And Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this thing; and you did not tell me about it, nor have I even heard of it until today.
Compare
-
21:27And Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech. And the two of them made a covenant.
Compare
-
21:28And Abraham set seven ewe lambs of the flock by themselves.
Compare
-
21:29And Abimelech said to Abraham, What is the meaning of these seven ewe lambs which you have set by themselves?
Compare
-
21:30And he said, These seven ewe lambs you shall take from my hand, that it may be a witness for me that I dug this well.
Compare
-
21:31Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there the two of them swore an oath.
Compare
-
21:32So they made a covenant at Beer-sheba; and Abimelech rose up with Phicol the captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.
Compare
-
21:33And Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and there he called on the name of Jehovah, the Eternal God.
Compare
-
21:34And Abraham sojourned in the land of the Philistines many days.
Compare
-
22:1Now after these things God tested Abraham and said to him, Abraham. And he said, Here I am.
Compare
-
22:2And He said, Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you.
Compare
-
22:3And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took two of his young men with him and Isaac his son. And he split the wood for the burnt offering and rose up and went to the place of which God had told him.
Compare
-
22:4On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place from afar.
Compare
-
22:5And Abraham said to his young men, Stay here with the donkey; and I and the boy will go over there, and we will worship; and then we will return to you.
Compare
-
22:6And Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and laid it upon Isaac his son. And he took in his hand the fire and the knife. And the two of them walked together.
Compare
-
22:7And Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, My father! And he said, Here I am, my son. And he said, The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?
Compare
-
22:8And Abraham said, God Himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son. So the two of them walked on together.
Compare
-
22:9And they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.
Compare
-
22:10And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slaughter his son.
Compare
-
22:11And the Angel of Jehovah called to him from the heavens and said, Abraham, Abraham. And he said, Here I am.
Compare
-
22:12And He said, Do not stretch out your hand upon the boy, nor do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.
Compare
-
22:13And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram, caught in the thicket by its horns. And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up for a burnt offering in place of his son.
Compare
-
22:14And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh, as it is said to this day, On the mount of Jehovah it will be provided.
Compare
-
22:15And the Angel of Jehovah called to Abraham a second time from the heavens
Compare
-
22:16And said, By Myself I have sworn, declares Jehovah: Because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son,
Compare
-
22:17I will surely bless you and will greatly multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens and like the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies.
Compare
-
22:18And in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.
Compare
-
22:19So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beer-sheba. And Abraham dwelt in Beer-sheba.
Compare
-
22:20And after these things it was told Abraham, saying, Milcah has now also borne children to your brother Nahor:
Compare
-
22:21Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram
Compare
-
22:22And Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel;
Compare
-
22:23And Bethuel begot Rebekah. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother.
Compare
-
22:24And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, also bore Tebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.
Compare
-
23:1And the life of Sarah was one hundred twenty-seven years. These were the years of the life of Sarah.
Compare
-
23:2And Sarah died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan. And Abraham proceeded to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her.
Compare
-
23:3Then Abraham rose up from before his dead wife and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,
Compare
-
23:4I am a stranger and a sojourner among you. Give me the possession of a burial place among you that I may bury my dead wife out of my sight.
Compare
-
23:5And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,
Compare
-
23:6Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God in our midst. In the choicest of our burial places bury your dead wife. None of us will withhold from you his burial place for burying your dead wife.
Compare
-
23:7And Abraham rose up and bowed down to the people of the land, to the children of Heth.
Compare
-
23:8And he spoke with them, saying, If it is your desire that I should bury my dead wife out of my sight, hear me, and entreat Ephron the son of Zohar for me,
Compare
-
23:9That he would give me the cave of Machpelah, which is his and which is at the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me in your midst for the possession of a burial place.
Compare
-
23:10Now Ephron was sitting in the midst of the children of Heth. And Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, in the hearing of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,
Compare
-
23:11No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field and the cave that is in it; to you I give it. In the presence of the children of my people I give it to you; bury your dead wife.
Compare
-
23:12And Abraham bowed down before the people of the land.
Compare
-
23:13And he spoke to Ephron in the hearing of the people of the land, saying, But if you will, please hear me; I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, that I may bury my dead wife there.
Compare
-
23:14And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,
Compare
-
23:15My lord, listen to me. A piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver, what is that between me and you? Therefore bury your dead wife.
Compare
-
23:16And Abraham listened to Ephron, and Abraham weighed out to Ephron the silver which he had named in the hearing of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current with the merchant.
Compare
-
23:17So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah and which was before Mamre, the field and the cave which was in it and all the trees that were in the field, which were in all its territory, were assured
Compare
-
23:18To Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, in the presence of all who went in at the gate of his city.
Compare
-
23:19And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.
Compare
-
23:20And the field and the cave that is in it were assured to Abraham for the possession of a burial place from the children of Heth.
